Porcelain or Composite Veneers This effective cosmetic procedure involves bonding a thin layer of porcelain or composite to the prepared tooth surface. Veneers can make teeth look whiter, straighter and more evenly spaced, often in only one session. Veneers can often correct problems that otherwise would necessitate braces. Porcelain Crowns The affected tooth is reshaped so that it can be augmented by a natural-looking synthetic material, porcelain. There are many types of porcelains, each with its unique strengths and weaknesses. Dr. Fluegge believes that crowns should be a last resort for teeth and prefers to try other alternatives first.
Composite Bonding - A tooth colored composite resin can be used to repair many blemishes. Fractures, chips, excessive wear, and gaps can usually be corrected in just one appointment. Composite resins are also used to fill cavities while maintaining a more natural and beautiful look than traditional silver fillings.
Tooth-Colored Fillings - Made of a composite resin material instead of the traditional silver amalgam fillings, these fillings are superior to silver amalgam in nearly all aspects. Composite or "white" fillings have a much better "bond" to the tooth structure than do silver fillings. Composite fillings literally enable dentists to avoid placing crowns on teeth that would have otherwise fractured. The composite fillings rarely, if ever, have sensitivity to hot or cold after being placed. They do not contain mercury,copper, tin or zinc. Finally, they are beautiful and mimic the look of a natural tooth! These fillings are the material of choice for the modern dentist.
Esthetic Recontouring - For patients with fractured or chipped teeth, or smiles with an "uneven" look, there is esthetic or cosmetic recontouring. This is a process where we reshape the front teeth to give them a more even or balanced appearance resulting in a younger looking and more beautiful smile.
